A menacing teaser visual has announced someone is next in the fourth My Hero Academia movie.

The announcement for a fourth My Hero Academia movie was previously announced in Weekly Shōnen Jump’s Issue #36-37 and the social media platforms have revealed a dark teaser visual and announcement video. Deku dons on the frayed yellow cape given to him by Gran Torino while standing behind him, his features shadowed, is All Might at the height of his power. Part of the words on the visual have been viciously scratched out, and seems to translate to “Next is…” The contents of the film has not yet been revealed as the video pays homage to the first three films in the anime franchise.

The first time fans heard this line was in Season 2, Episode 11 “One for All” when All Might fights All for One. Using the very last reserves of his energy and his Quirk, All Might manages to defeat All for One. He points at the film crew, declaring, “Next, it’s your turn.” Although the viewers seemed to believe this was a message to the villains, Deku knew that this was the end of an era…and it was now up to Deku to take up the mantle and finish what he started.

The unnamed fourth movie, animated and produced by Studio Bones, will feature an original story and will be set after the events of Season 6 in the anime. Mangaka Kōhei Horikoshi will be the chief supervisor and is credited for the original work and characters. “I was really surprised when [Bones and Toho] told me there would be a new movie,” Horikoshi said. “I couldn’t help but think back to my childhood, when a new Dragon Ball movie was released every year. Those made me so excited that I remember sitting in the movie theatre with my heart racing like crazy. So I hope the new generation of kids around the world can enjoy this movie just as much as me back then!”

Season 6 aired from Oct. 1, 2022 to March 25, 2023 for 25 episodes. The season adapted the “Paranormal Liberation War” and “Dark Hero” arcs where the anime took a decidedly darker shift in tone to symbolize the villains’ growing power and influence. The heroes took a significant beating and doubts have been raised on what constitutes being a hero. Deku, especially, has been hit the hardest and makes a choice in the hopes that he can protect everyone he loves as he sets forward to put a stop to Shigaraki and All for One’s evil.

All six seasons of My Hero Academia are currently available on Crunchyroll, although the movies are not on the streaming platform. The ongoing manga is available to read on Viz Media.
