Fans are in mourning as it was announced more than a dozen piracy sites with millions of views were shut down internationally.

A list posted by the X (formerly known as Twitter) account Anime News and Facts revealed the names of the pirate streamers. Among the sites listed include the popular site aniwave, which led to content creators posting YouTube videos mourning the loss.

Comments include @cloudduel13 stating, “100% . The old anime is what hurts the most.” and @kiyotxka observing, “It’s so funny to me that corporations will always shut down these pirate websites but never try to make an actual good streaming service that’s competent and has most anime on it. I would gladly pay for a streaming platform that actually has most anime with good overall service quality. But as it is right now, I’m never willing to pay a cent, not for the garbage we have such as crunchyroll and others. I shouldn’t have to pay for 5 different monthly subscriptions just because each anime is exclusive to another platform. It’s sad because I know the animators behind most anime are overworked with bad wages, and would love to support them, but I know for a fact that even when legal anime websites are used, these animators still barely get their fair wage. Big corporations are always the benefactors in these situations.”

In an attempt to prevent further closures, both anime and manga fans have been beseeching one another to stop publicly naming sites. @xenoemblem7 added their two cents, saying, “If you think this is a sas [sic] day for pirates, then you’re a bad pirate.”
