Manta Comics Welcomes Let’s Play Creator for New Series Dragon King Oath

Manta Comics has welcomed Leeanne M. Krecic, who is known as the creator of Let’s Play, onto its platform for a new series called Dragon King Oath.

The creator behind the Eisner-nominated webcomic series Let’s Play will be joining Manta Comics for a new series.

At New York Comic Con 2023, Manta Comics announced the exciting news of Leeanne M. Krecic, the creator of Let’s Play, releasing a new series titled Dragon King Oath, exclusively on Manta Comics. This announcement marks Krecic as the first major creator to join Manta Comics from another platform. Dragon King Oath will be a 100-episode series.

In an interview with Forbes, Krecic described Dragon King Oath as leaning “on the trope of Beauty and the Beast, but not in the way you think.” The humans, in her story, are “very curly and unforgiving,” making them the “beast,” while the dragons, in contrast, are immortal and “play the long game and they are peaceful.”

Set in a world and during a time where the lands has been besieged by conflict, the humans and dragons have enacted an oath in the hopes that they may live in peace for the coming future. The oath dictates that the king must offer wyrmkie his royal daughter in exchange for the dragons’ protection and promise to not harm the king nor his people. King Wylgerent has pledged his daughter Princess Lisette Wylgerent to Raith. Frightened though Lisette may be, she follows Raith into the home of the dragons and there, her preconceived notions on the dragons and humans are destroyed as she discovers secrets about the two races that may break or save them both.

Krecic had only words of praise for the team at Manta Comics: “In Manta, I’ve found more than just a digital comics platform; I’ve found a committed team that listens, collaborates, and celebrates shared goals. As we forge ahead, I’m reminded of the ever-supportive community that has enjoyed my work and celebrated each milestone with me. I’m eager for everyone to see what’s next.”

“When the opportunity arose to partner with Leeanne on her latest endeavor, it was an unequivocal and resounding ‘yes,'” Sung Lee, Head of Business Development for the U.S. and Europe at Manta, enthused. “Leeanne has cultivated an extraordinary fan base, a community eagerly anticipating her next creation, and we are confident they will be enraptured by what she is crafting.”

Let’s Play began releasing on the WEBTOON platform and has become one of the most popular series there, gathering close to 7.5 million subscribers. The series has notably earned an Eisner nomination for Best Webcomic and a Ringo Award. Season 3 concluded in September 2022 but Krecic announced on her social media platform and on her website on Nov. 9, 2022, that there would be no Season 4 on WEBTOON. Krecic cited several concerns including the series being excluded from marketing and putting the series behind an age gate. “The blame was reflected back at me for incredibly far-fetched reasons,” the creator wrote on her site. “These issues, among many others, have made me feel marginalized and that WEBTOON does not value Let’s Play or me.”
