Kimi ni Todoke Unveils Emotional Live-Action Trailer

The live-action adaptation of Kimi ni Todoke has released its first trailer and it hits right in the heart.

Uploaded on Netflix Asia’s official YouTube channel, the trailer opens with sakura blowing in the wind as two young people stand a little ways away from each other. Sawako Kuronuma, played by Sara Minami, timidly explains how she has always been called “Sadako” due to her appearance being akin to that of a character from a horror movie. She slowly starts emerging out of her shell when she meets Shōta Kazehaya, played by Ōji Suzuka, a friendly and popular boy in her class. Accompanying the trailer is the theme song “Ai no Uta,” translating to “Love Song,” sung by Takaya Kawasaki.

Written and illustrated by Karuho Shiina, Kimi ni Todoke began serialization in Bessatsu Margaret from 2005 to 2017 and has been collected in 30 tankōbon volumes. The series won Best Shōjo Manga at the 32nd Annual Kodansha Manga Award. Kimi ni Todoke received an anime adaptation for two seasons with the first season airing in October 2009 and the second season in January 2011, produced by Production I.G. A live-action film adaptation premiered in January 2010, starring Mikako Tabe as Sawako and Haruma Miura as Shōta and grossed over 234 million yen during its debut week. The live-action television series will have Takehiko Shinjō and Takeo Kikuchi directing with Hayato Miyamoto writing the scripts.

The Netflix adaptation of Kimi ni Todoke premieres on the streaming platform on March 30.
