Kaleidoscope of Death Drama Adaptation Lives — and Dies

The live-action drama adaptation of Kaleidoscope of Death saw the light of day for only one hour before it was unceremoniously taken down.

In true C-drama fashion, the live-action adaptation of the BL novel series Kaleidoscope of Death dropped without any warning.

Many fans received the shock of their lives when they saw the drama adaptation of Kaleidoscope of Death had premiered on iQIYI on Feb. 2. Renamed to The Spirealm, the drama had published 52 episodes out of the 78 total episodes, each around 20 minutes each. The premise has changed somewhat as it stars a VR game designer. However, fans’ excitement was short-lived as the series was taken down an hour later. There is no word as to when, or if, The Spirealm will ever live once again.

C-netizens are no stranger to the fast takedowns and a few have already quickly downloaded the available episodes for safekeeping. Previously, another live-action adaptation for another danmei novel series Modu, which was retitled to Justice in the Dark premiered in 2023 and had numerous details changed including the character names. The drama aired eight episodes and does not appear to be any closer to releasing the rest of the episodes, disappointing many viewers.

Written by Xi Zi Xu, Kaleidoscope of Death is a horror mystery series. Kaleidoscope of Death features a survival game where Lin Quishi and Ruan Nanzhu must go through 12 iron gates and survive the horrors that lie behind them. The web novel of Kaleidoscope of Death contains 139 chapters with eight extras.
