Heaven Official’s Blessing and Mo Dao Zu Shi Wish Fans a Happy Year of the Dragon

Happy Year of the Dragon, from MDZS’s Wangxian and TGCF’s Hualian!

Happy Lunar New Year! It’s the year of the dragon!

2024 marks the year of the dragon and many cultures–Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese–celebrate the new year. Popular danmei series Mo Dao Zu Shi and Heaven Official’s Blessing have uploaded new illustrations of the couples to ring in the lunar new year.

Gearous has uploaded a new illustration of Mo Dao Zu Shi‘s Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji on Weibo. The Yiling Patriarch plays Chenqing while casting a sideways glance at Lan Wangji. The two of them have dragon horns on their heads in honor of the year of the dragon.

He he wu took a more traditional approach with their Weibo upload, featuring a gorgeous illustration of Wangxian strolling together amongst a sky of lanterns. The two have eyes for no one but each other and look especially cozy with their fur-lined cloaks.

Kaze similarly drew Wangxian with dragon horns on Weibo, but featuring a Wei Wuxian in his second life. Wei Wuxian grasps a golden sugar-spun dragon treat in one hand with the other reaching out to hold his husband’s hand.

Heaven Official’s Blessing‘s Hualian was not about to let Wangxian celebrate the new year alone. The donghua released a new illustration on their Weibo. The caption reads Xie Lian marvelling at the fireworks and asking Hua Cheng what gift he would like for the new year. Hua Cheng smoothly responds that what he wants is already in his hands, while holding Xie Lian close.

Written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, Mo Dao Zu Shi was her second novel, published between October 2015 to March 2016. Mo Dao Zu Shi follows the brilliant, but unconventional, cultivator Wei Wuxian who becomes the most detested and feared cultivator after choosing the path of demonic cultivation. 13 years after his death, it seemed like the world had gone into a period of peace until he returns to the world of the living via summoning. Although Wei Wuxian had every intention to live peacefully without drawing attention to himself, a case about a ghost arm pulls him back into events from 13 years ago…and the man whom he once thought was his enemy. The series received a three-season donghua adaptation that aired from July 2018 to October 2021. Mo Dao Zu Shi will also receive a monochrome manga adaptation in the summer of 2024.

Heaven Official’s Blessing was her third novel that released between June 2017 and February 2018. The story follows a thrice-ascended god named Xie Lian who unravels the mysteries of his past from 800 years ago when he meets a red-robed man named Hua Cheng who has been waiting for Xie Lian for a very, very long time. As Xie Lian investigates the cases commanded The series received a donghua adaptation. Season 1 contained 11 episodes and a special episode that released on Feb. 14, 2021. Season 2 premiered on Oct. 18, 2023 with 12 episodes. A third season has not yet been announced.

Both novels are officially licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment and haven landed on the New York Times’ Best Seller List.
