Heaven Official’s Blessing and Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation Celebrate Lantern Festival
Wangxian and Hualian, the ship names fans have for the main characters of Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Heaven Official’s Blessing, celebrate the end of the Lunar New Year.
Uploaded by the official Weibo accounts of the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua, the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation‘s Wei Wuxian is busily wrapping dumplings by hand while Lan Wangji wipes the flour off his beloved Wei Ying’s face with a slightly concerned look on his face. Accompanying them is a little bunny snowman, paying homage to both the Year of the Rabbit and to the couple’s love of bunnies. Heaven Official’s Blessing‘s couple Xie Lian and Hua Cheng are dressed in their best Lunar New Year wear with the former cradling a black rabbit in his hands. Rabbits are abound and can be seen lounging atop lotus flowers and on rooftops.
元宵节 or Lantern Festival is the last day of the Lunar New Year, marking the first full moon of the new lunar year. To celebrate, most people eat tangyuan, sweet glutinous rice balls with various fillings like red bean or peanuts. After they fill their bellies up, they take to the streets to watch the lion dances and watch the night sky light up with fireworks.
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, or Mo Dao Zu Shi, is Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s second novel. The series follows Wei Wuxian who is brought back to life 13 years after his death. In his previous life, he was known as the Yiling Patriarch, a feared cultivator known for specializing in forbidden methods to control the undead. Although he initially hoped to live a quiet life, he unexpectedly reunites with Lan Wangji who, in his past life, seemed to hate him. He soon discovers that not all is what it seems.
Following the conclusion of Mo Dao Zu Shi, Mo Xiang Tong Xiu released their third book called Tian Guan Ci Fu, or Heaven Official’s Blessing in English. A high fantasy story set in a world divided into gods, humans and ghosts, the story follows Xie Lian, a disgraced god who ascends to the heavens for the third time in 800 years. His first task is to descend to the human realm to investigate a ghost bride case. There, he encounters a mysterious man robed in red whom he later realizes is one of the Ghost Kings, Hua Cheng or Crimson Rain Sought Flower. Little does he know, his ties with Hua Cheng are much more complicated and go much further back than he realizes.
