Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is getting ready for an exhilarating second cour.

The highly popular and praised anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End unveiled a new trailer to introduce the next arc called “First Class Mage Exam.” This arc marks the beginning of the second cour which airs on Jan. 5, 2024. The trailer also features the new opening theme song “Hareru,” performed by yorushika. A new key visual for the arc has also been dropped.

The second cour welcomes Azumi Waki, Sayumi Suzushiro, Kishou Taniyama, Ikumi Hasegawa as Kanne, Lavine, Wirbel, and Übel, respectively. Jiro Sato, Shōhei Komatsu, Eiji Hanawa, Shizuka Ishigami portray Denken, Land, Richter, and Laufen. Kanae Itō, Haruka Terui, and Tarusuke Shigaki round out the 11 new cast members as Ehre, Sense, and Genau.

Animated and produced by Madhouse, Keiichirō Saitō directs the anime with Tomohiro Suzuki as the series scriptwriter. Reiko Nagasawa oversees the character designs with Evan Call as the composer. The first cour aired on Sept. 29 with a four-episode special and, during its airing, has garnered strong praise for its storytelling.

Written by Kanehito Yamada with art by Tsukasa Abe, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End follows elf mage Frieren who has lived for an immeasurable amount of time. As such, she has seen the world and humanity change. After defeating the Demon King with her comrades, the group make a promise to reunite once again the next time the Era Meteors fall, which happen once every fifty ears. However, Frieren realizes things have changed drastically and one of her comrades have passed away. She makes an effort to go on one more adventure but with the goal of learning more about humanity.

The series has over eight million copies as of March 2023 and received the 14th Manga Taishō award and the New Creator Prize at the 25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. It landed in third place at the 7th Next Manga Award, behind Oshi no Ko and Uma Museum: Cinderella Gray.
