Blue Exorcist S3 Announces January 2024 Premiere Date and Teaser Trailer

Blue Exorcist will return with the “Shimane Illuminati Saga” in January 2024.
Revealed at Aniplex 2023, Blue Exorcist will release its third season, titled the “Shimane Illuminati Saga” sometime in January 2024. A new trailer as well as key visual have been released. The trailer gives a sneak peek to fans on what to expect, promising spells and betrayals.
Written and illustrated by Kazue Kato, the Blue Exorcist manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine in April 2009 and currently has 29 tankōbon volumes as of July 2023. The series has collected over 25 million copies in circulation as of December 2022. The manga has received praise for the comedic writing, the artwork and dynamic storytelling.
The story follows twin brothers Rin Okumura and Yukio Okumura who discover that they are the sons of Satan with Satan’s powers divided between the two. Older brother Rin draws the demon-slaying sword Kurikara which unlocks his demonic powers, and changes his appearance so that he know possesses blue flames, fangs and a tail. Rin enrolls into True Cross Academy to grow stronger in the hopes that he may one day defeat Satan. There, he discovers his brother is already an Exorcist and who has been secretly protecting him all along.
The manga has inspired an anime adaptation with A-1 Pictures animating and producing. The first season aired in April 2011 and ended in October 2011 with Tensai Okamura directing. The second season, titled the “Kyoto Saga” aired in January 2017 and ended in March 2017 with 12 episodes. Koichi Hatsumi replaced Okamura as the director.
Daisuke Yoshida will direct the third season at Studio VOLN with Toshiya Ono written the series script and Yurie Oohigashi overseeing the character design as the designer and chief animation director. Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano will work together on the music composition.
The first two seasons of Blue Exorcist are available on Crunchyroll. The third season will launch in January 2024.
