Let’s Play to Return in 2025, Confirms Anime Adaptation
Leeanne M. Krecic (Mongie)’s popular webcomic series Let’s Play will return in 2025.
After around a year since Let’s Play has finished Season 3, fans will be reunited with their favourite characters in 2025.
As reported by Pop Culture Squad at New York Comic Con, Leeanne M. Krecic has announced her critically-acclaimed webcomic series Let’s Play will return in the fall 2025. Let’s Play will reportedly come back with two more seasons, making it a possible five-season series. In addition, the series will inspire an anime adaptation with OLM, Inc. (Pokémon: The First Movie, Summer Time Rendering and The Apothecary Diaries) at the helm. Let’s Play will also partner with BioWare (Baldur’s Gate and Dragon Age) for an unspecified project.
Additionally, at the same panel, Krecic revealed a new series called Dragon King Oath, which will be hosted by Manta Comics. The 100-episode series turns the trope of Beauty and the Beast on its head, promising danger and romance. On her move to Manta Comics, Krecic said she found “a committed team that listens, collaborates, and celebrates shared goals.”
Let’s Play began releasing on the WEBTOON platform and has become one of the most popular series there, gathering close to 7.5 million subscribers. The series has notably earned an Eisner nomination for Best Webcomic and a Ringo Award. Krecic announced on her website on Nov. 9, 2022, that there would be no Season 4 on WEBTOON after Season 3 concluded in September 2022. Krecic cited several concerns including the series being excluded from marketing and putting the series behind an age gate. “The blame was reflected back at me for incredibly far-fetched reasons,” the creator wrote on her site. “These issues, among many others, have made me feel marginalized and that WEBTOON does not value Let’s Play or me.”
She further elaborated, pointing out the issues other WEBTOON creators have encountered on the platform regarding the pay disparity for Latin American creators as well as “the ongoing lack of transparency and errors in accounting that I’ve experienced personally.” Krecic concluded, “WEBTOON is no longer the right platform for me or Let’s Play.”
The first three seasons of Let’s Play are available to read on WEBTOON. Krecic has not announced where fans can read the next few seasons as of this article’s publishing. There is no premiere date yet for the anime adaptation.
