My Hero Academia Announces Fourth Movie Will Take Place After Season 6’s War

Incoming, My Hero Academia fans! A fourth movie is on its way.

My Hero Academia has announced a fourth movie.

An announcement in Weekly Shōnen Jump’s Issue #36 – 37 has unveiled a fourth My Hero Academia movie is in development. The fourth movie, currently untitled, will take place after the events in Season 6. No release date has been revealed. The manga’s creator Kōhei Horikoshi expressed his delighted surprise over the movie’s announcement, as translated by Rukasa.

With Season 7 underway, Horikoshi was taken aback when Studio Bones and Toho informed him a fourth My Hero Academia movie was being planned. The mangaka reminisced on his own childhood when, as a child, he would sit and watch the latest Dragon Ball movie. “So I hope the new generation of kids around the world can enjoy this movie just as much as me back then!” He wrote.

My Hero Academia has inspired an extremely successful anime franchise. Animated by Studio Bones, Season 1 launched in April 2016 to critical acclaim. The series followed up with a second season, a year later. Season 3 premiered in April 2018. Season 4 aired in October 2019 before taking a longer hiatus following its conclusion. My Hero Academia returned with Season 6 in March 2021. Most recently, the sixth season, which adapted the “Paranormal Liberation War” arc and “Dark Hero” arc aired from October 2022 to March 2023. Shortly after, the series revealed Season 7 was in production, dropping a somber key visual of Deku standing alone.

During Season 3’s airing, My Hero Academia announced its first film called My Hero Academia: Two Heroes which featured an original story. The film grossed over $33 million worldwide and garnered positive reviews. A sequel, titled My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, premiered in December 2019 and earned less money at $29 million but similarly received positive reviews. The third movie, titled My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, was the financially successful out of the three, grossing over $47 million worldwide and earned praise for its high-quality animation.

A story set in a world full of heroes and villains, My Hero Academia follows one boy who was never born with any kind of superpowers and yet still dreamed of becoming the greatest superhero in the world. When Deku unexpectedly receives his idol All Might’s superpower, known as Quirks, called One for All, he also has unknowingly accepted a decades-long conflict against All Might’s nemesis All for One. The storytelling and character development, as well as Horikoshi’s detailed artwork, has made My Hero Academia one of the best-selling manga series with 85 million copies in circulation.

All six seasons of My Hero Academia are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
