King the Land Drops Manhwa Prequel Ahead of Drama Premiere

The manhwa prequel showcases the sweet first meeting between King the Land’s Gu Won and Cheon Sarang.

Before becoming king, King the Land‘s Gu Won was a lonely child who hated anyone with a smile and met a little girl who was never without one.

Hype has been building up for the upcoming K-drama King the Land, starring Girls’ Generation’s Im Yoona and 2PM’s Lee Junho. Prior to the release of the drama on June 17, KakaoPage has released a manhwa prequel which revolves around the first meeting between Gu Won and Sarang on June 9. Illustrated by Spoon, the artist between Who Made Me a Princess, seven chapters have been released.

The drama follows Gu Won (Lee Junho), the heir and general manager of King Hotel, a long line of luxury hotels, and Cheon Sarang (Im Yoona). Gu Won despises smiling and orders everyone around him to not smile while Sarang has earned the nickname of Smile Queen for the perpetual smile on her face. The two navigate their relationship amidst a tense inheritance war. Created by Cheon Sungil, Im Hyunwook oversees the drama as the director with Choi Rom as the writer.

King the Land premieres on June 17 on Netflix in selected regions.
